FIGHTING AMERICAN GALLERY
After a short down-time period, Stephen was thrust back into the spotlight and given the task of illustrating the resurrected Simon & Kirby patrior superhero - The Fighting American. This third volume interpretation of the character was licenced by Awesome to directly compete with Captain America following Rob Liefeld's firing from Marvel's Heroes Reborn and his legal troubles over the creation of his Agent America character. Stephen co-illustrated the first miniseries and handled the penciling chores on the unfinished third miniseries up until Awesome's demise, while Ed McGuiness took care of the Rules of the Game miniseries in-between.
For a special retrospective on the Fighting American art debacle and the forgotten Captain America stint, check out our exclusive original presentation in the extras section. Additionally, you will also find out the story of the unpublished "lost" FA:DOW 1 cover and the custom inking and coloring commissions behind it. For more information on internal contributions as well as cover variations, please consult the checklist section.
